Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to know about Part P?

Yes. By law, all homeowners and landlords must be able to prove that all electrical installation work meets Part P.

Part P is that part of the Building Regulations concerning electrical installations in dwellings.

See Customer information for more details.

  • Who is ELECSA?

ELECSA is a Government approved electrical Competent Person Scheme Operator (other operators include NAPIT, NICEIC and STROMA).

All electricians should be registered with one such approved scheme. Electricians registered with ELECSA are assessed on a regular basis to ensure high standards and their work is checked against the IET Wiring Regulations as well as other standards. The ELECSA Approved Contractor Scheme is also accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

  • What is the 'Platinum Promise'?

All ELECSA registered businesses are covered by the 'Platinum Promise' – a promise that protects you against all noncompliant installation work. Should any work carried out by an ELECSA registered contractor be found not to comply with the Building Regulations or relevant installation standards, ELECSA can instruct the contractor to go back and carry out the work to the required standard. If the contractor is no longer in business or disputes the matter ELECSA will have the work rectified by another registered contractor at no extra cost.

The Platinum Promise is valid for up to six years from the date of the completion of the original work and covers work up to a maximum of £25,000 for any one installation.

  • What are your charges?

As a general rule a fee of £40/hr is applicable. There are no call out charges.

For larger jobs a brief visit or site survey is usually required before a quotation is possible.
